THE ASTINO ABBEY IN BERGAMO IS THE NEW "HOME" OF VERONELLI’S "PHYSICAL AND PHILOSOPHICAL" HERITAGE. DURING EXPO 2015, IT WILL HOST THE EXHIBITION "LUIGI VERONELLI, WALKING ON EARTH" AND THEN BECOME A PERMANENT CULTURAL CENTER

The Astino Abbey, a symbolic place for the people of Bergamo, will be the new "home” of Veronelli’s "physical and philosophical" heritage. It will host the exhibition "Luigi Veronelli, Walking on earth" during Expo 2015 and curated by the Milan Triennial (www.triennale.it/it) from January 20th to February 22nd 2015. "It is very important because we are bringing Veronelli to the heart of a place of culture that is not only food and wine”, said Gian Arturo Rota, head of the “Decennial Veronelli Committee”. And then, the Abbe (www.astino.it) will become a permanent cultural center about Veronelli, and will host over 70.000 bottles from his cellar. Info: www.decennaleveronelli.it

The heart of the exhibition will be the reconstruction (partial) of his cellar
.
It is a faithful copy of the one built between 1970 and 1971, when Veronelli moved from Milan to Bergamo, in collaboration with the architect and designer Silvio Coppola. The cellar was carved into the rock in his home garden; it is about 350-400 square meters and has "survived" for 34 years without interruption. The cellar contains 70.000 bottles (bottles were taken out and put in every day) of mostly Italian wines that are stored in square boxes of cement bricks. Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity, through particular solutions (which we would like to keep secret for now) to live a multisensory experience in Veronelli’s cellar that he affectionately called his "bunker".
It was not a "museum", just to collect fine wines arranged on particularly refined wooden shelves, but a place of work where he tasted wines and later re-tasted them to get to know and understand them better. It is a place where its charm is simplicity, filled to capacity with bottles, marked by a strong aroma of wines that somehow blend. "Borges spoke of a library so vast that the towers surrounding the building, all equal in height, would be the first white and the last black. Entering this winery gives one a similar sensation. The wines are all equally great, even if their fame is totally different, and the first is white and the last is red”.
