THE FRENCH WINE WORLD IS A LITTLE NERVOUS ABOUT THE 2013 HARVEST, BUT THEY CAN RELAX, AS THE “ECONOMIC FRUITS” OF THEIR 2012 VINTAGE EXPORTS WAS CLOSE TO 10 BILLION EUROS

The French wine world is a bit concerned about the 2013 harvest, due to the climate, but they can relax as the “economic fruits” in exports of their 2012 vintage was close to 10 billion euros: exports, according to official data from the Directorate General of Customs, earned 5.6 billion euros, excluding Champagne. And, according to data from the Comité Champagne, bottles were exported for a turnover of 4.37 billion euros.
So, French wine exports totaled close to 10 billion euros. This is an important result, marking a 9% increase in value per year on average between 2009 and 2012, "thanks to the magnetism of high-quality wines, the ones whose price per liter is higher than 20 euros per bottle”, Customs explained, “which accounts for more than half of the growth. It is a sector where sales were boosted not only by China and Hong Kong, but also by the United Kingdom and the United States”. Europe remains the number one market for French wine, since it accounts for half of total exports, but the highest growth rates of course, are in Asia, which has grown 30% on average per year between 2009 and 2012 (compared to 6% in Europe).
