THE HARVEST WAS LATE EVEN IN POMPEII, WHERE THANKS TO THE MASTROBERARDINO BRAND AND THE DEPARTMENT OF ARCHAEOLOGY THE WINE OF THE ANCIENT ROMANS HAS BEEN REVIVED: "VILLA OF MYSTERIES", MODERN INTERPRETATION OF IMPERIAL AGE WINE

The harvest was late all over Italy this year, even in the Villa of the Mysteries vineyards, the Roman villa that is located a few hundred meters from the ruins of Pompeii, famous for its stunning frescoes.

The sciascino and piedirosso grapes that produce the true antique wine "Villa dei Misteri” have been harvested for the last 14 years. The vines are on 12 plots of land (for a total of one hectare of vineyards and 50 quintals of grapes harvested each year) on which the vines were replanted, following ancient viticulture techniques and are the same that grew there 2.000 years ago.

The Mastroberardino brand from the Campania region will produce this particular red in a modern interpretation of a type of wine in vogue during the Roman Empire. Mastroberardino has been given the task of restoring the viticulture in the ancient city and will open the doors of this unique harvest to the public, in the vineyard of the Forum Boarium. These grapes will be added to others (from the Summer Triclinium, the house of the Nave Europa, Cauponaria of the gladiator, Garden of the fugitives and Euxine) that were revived thanks to the Applied Research Laboratory of the Archaeological Department of Pompei.
