THE HISTORIC ROMAN GELATERIA FASSI, AFTER 134 YEARS OF ACTIVITY IS NOW PART OF THE LIST OF WINE & FOOD COMPANIES IN FOREIGN HANDS AND HAS BECOME MADE IN KOREA. GLOBAL FRANCHISE BRAND IN THE FUTURE

Fassi Gelateria, one of the oldest ice cream brands in Rome was founded in 1880. In 1928 it moved to via Principe Eugenio, where the family bought, for just over a million lire, Palazzo del Freddo (www.palazzodelfreddo.it), an impressive 700 square meter building, of which 200 square meters are used for production. Today, 134 years later, it has been added to the endless list of wine & food companies that have passed over into foreign hands, and now it is “Made in Korea”.
The "Gianni Origoni Grippo Cappelli & Partners” group made the announcement explaining that "they assisted the Korean company Haitai Confectionery and Foods Co. in the acquisition for an interest equal to 100% of the capital share of the Palazzo del Freddo Giovanni Fassi, the company that produces homemade ice cream". The Koreans from Haitai said, “the reason why we bought the Palace is that we wanted to create a foundation so that we can get onto the premium ice cream market, which is growing rapidly around the world.
The Palace is of high value as a global brand on the European market and it would have been difficult for the Fassi family to go from being a family owned company to developing a global franchise brand such as Smoothie King or Baskin-Robbins”.
