FIERAGRICOLA 2006 – MINISTER OF AGRICULTURAL POLITICS, GIANNI ALEMANNO, HAS NO DOUBTS: “IN 2008 VERONA WILL BECOME THE WORLD CAPITAL OF WINE AND THE HEADQUARTERS OF THE NATIONAL AUTHORITY FOR FOOD SAFETY”

The Minister of Agricultural Politics Gianni Alemanno announced at the recent national agricultural fair, Fieragricola, that Verona had been chosen “ as the headquarters for the 2008 World Conference ‘Organization Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin’ (OIV), and as the headquarters for the National Authority for Food Safety”.
“After having evaluated the candidates - stated Alemanno - we chose Verona” and this signifies an important and prestigious recognition for the city, which is sustained by a network of institutional, economic, and trade fair organizations that makes it one of the leaders of Italy’s agriculture and food industry.

“For this candidacy - stated Luigi Castelletti, president of Veronafiere - we put all of our weight on the table because with nine expositions in the food and agriculture sector, all of which are at an international level, like Vinitaly and Fieragricola, we have the title and the right to host such events”.

“This new asset of having Fieragricola - added Alemanno -allows the Italian system as well to work within a European frame and towards eastern countries, where innovation and technology is decisive; this agricultural appointment in Verona is an important moment for the realization of national politics for this sector, which remains central for the Italian economic system”.

And Verona will also become the headquarters of the National Authority for Food Safety, chosen over Turin and Foggia by Minister Alemanno. “After having assessed the other proposals - explained the minister - and after having put on the network all of the scientific professionals available at a national level, the moment had arrived for a headquarter that could meet directly with the European Union and which could be of scientific support for security controls, as well as for recognition of quality”. “A law will be needed in the next legislation to define this new asset and - stated Alemanno - I am signing up with those supporting Verona”.
