THE “MYTHIC WINES” OF ITALY AT VINITALY EXPO: OVER 2,000 EXPERTS WILL CHOOSE THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS BOTTLES OF THE PAST 40 YEARS ON APRIL 7

Vinitaly will elect the “Mythic Wines” from Italy and the world in a celebration worthy of the exposition’s 40 year anniversary (set for next April 6-10, in Verona). At the exposition, Vinitaly (www.vinitaly.com) will be organizing, in collaboration with Veronafiere, the magazine ‘Civiltà del Bere’, and Ice (National Institute for Foreign Commerce), a vote by 2,000 experts of the sector who will choose the most prestigious bottles of wine of the past 40 years. Participants will include restaurateurs, sommeliers, and commercial and communications sector representatives arriving from 66 different countries, including Italy, Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Norway, Holland, Czech Republic, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Canada, United States, and Japan.
At a national level, the selection includes chefs from the top restaurants, sommeliers registered in the Italian and international association, hundreds of journalists from numerous papers, televisions and sector magazines, representatives from the Vinarius wine shop association, and retailers of top name wines. On an international level, a considerable number of journalists, representatives of top restaurants, and some of the most notable commercial vendors, who have all long been involved in promoting the best Italian wines, will be participating.
The grand event ‘Vinitaly 40: il mondo elegge i miti’ (Vinitaly 40: the world elects the myths), will be held on Friday, April 7 at the exposition in Verona, during which tastings, awards, and presentations by the producers of the wines in competition will be offered. Ultimately, prizes will be awarded for various categories: ‘the myth of myths’, the best wine in absolute; ‘the best wine according to popular vote’, according to sector journalists, restaurateurs, etc.; and finally ‘the consensus wine’ award, which will be given to the wine that does not win the official classifications but receives the most votes overall.
