The Particularity - Spumante Imports to the U.S. Rise, and France Takes the Prize

Sparkling wine imports to the U.S. registered an overall 8% increase in quantity and 9.2% increase in value in 2005, reaching 436,540 hectoliters with a value of 597.59 million dollars versus 404,210 hectoliters and 547 million dollars in 2004. For Italian spumantes exported to the U.S., totals registered an increase of 5.4% in quantity and 9.3% in value in 2005, reaching 129,870 hectoliters and 73.43 million dollars in 20005, rising from 123,270 hectoliters 67.2 million dollars in 2003. For the other two main spumante exporters to the U.S., France registered an increase of 9.2% in quantity and 9.7% in value, reaching 192,790 hectoliters and 468.06 million dollars, versus 176,600 hectoliters and 426.65 million dollars in 2004; and Spain registered an increase of 6,2% in quantity and 6.7% in value, reaching 92,410 hectoliters and 46.47 million dollars, compared to 87,030 hectoliters and 43.54 million dollars in 2004.
