AND THE WINNERS OF THE 2006 WINE OSCARS ARE... ITALIAN SOMMELIER ASSOCIATION AWARDS TOP NAMES, FROM BELLAVISTA TO TENUTA SAN LEONARDO, FROM GAJA TO CANTINA DI SANTADI, FROM FORADORI TO ROCCA DELLE MACIE TO CANDIDO

The 2006 Wine Oscars were held recently in Rome with a spectacular affair held at the Terrazza del Campidoglio. One of the most glamorous events, in fact, that exists within the wine world (and this year’s was by far the most extraordinary to date). The evening, conducted by Franco Ricci, president of AIS Roma, and by Antonella Clerici, awarded the names that had been chosen b the readers of Duemila Vini, the guide published by the Italian Sommelier Association, and by the magazine Bibenda.
At the event - which will be broadcast on television by RAI on June 11 - numerous Vip’s made appearances and handed out the awards to the lucky winners. Personalities like Albano, Lamberto Sposini, Luotto, Laura Freddi, Riccardo Rossi, Fabrizio Del Noce and Roberto Laganà were all in attendance.
Also set for June 11 (from 16.30 to 21.30), the Italian Sommelier Association of Rome will host a huge kermes at the Grand Hotel Parco dei Principi where it will be possible to sample all of the products made by the winner’s of the 2006 Wine Oscars.

Spumante:
Franciacorta Gran Cuvée Pas Operé 2000 - Bellavista - Erbusco (Brescia)
Sweet Wine:
Alto Adige Moscato Rosa 2004 - Franz Haas - Montagna (Bolzano)
Foreign Wine:
Cheval Blanc 2002 - Château Cheval Blanc - Saint Emilion (Bordeaux - Francia) - Imported by Sarzi Amadè
Best Quality/Price Wine:
Chianti Classico Tenuta Sant’Alfonso 2003 - Rocca delle Macìe - Castellina in Chianti (Siena)
Best Label:
Langhe Sauvignon Alteni di Brassica 2004 - Gaja - Barbaresco (Cuneo)
Best Producer:
Elisabetta Foradori - Foradori - Mezzolombardo (Trento)
Best Winery:
Tenuta San Leonardo - Borghetto all’Adige (Trento)
Best Enologist:
Roberto Cipresso
Best Journalist:
Sandro Sangiorgi - Porthos
Best Restaurant Sommelier:
Andrea Ugolotti - Ristorante Dal Pescatore - Canneto sull’Oglio (Mantova)
Best Wine Bar/ Cellar Attraction:
La Stüa de Michil - Corvara in Badia (Bolzano)
A special award was also given to University of Milan professor, Attilio Scienza, one of the most important scientists in the wine world.
