‘GENTLEMAN’ MAGAZINE’S TOP ITALIAN WINE PICKS: TERRA DI LAVORO, GALATRONA, MONTEVETRANO AND SERPICO. SELECTION BASED ON A CROSS MATCHING OF MOST IMPORTANT WINE GUIDES. ENOLOGIST COTARELLA ALSO AMONG “WINNERS”, GRABBING FOURTH SPOTS ON TOP 10

Terra di Lavoro 2004 Galardi, Galatrona 2004 Petrolo, Montevetrano 2004 Montevetrano, Serpico 2004 Feudi di San Gregorio: these are the top picks among Italian wine according to ‘Gentleman’, the monthly magazine by Class Editori, which created a Top 100 wines list by cross matching points received in the most important wine guides.
The wines that follow on the list organized by journalist Cesare Pillon, are Kurni 2004 Oasi degli Angeli in fifth place, Sassicaia 2003 Tenuta San Guido at sixth, seventh place for Barolo Vigna Rionda 2001 Oddero; in equal merit with Valle Isarco Kerner Praepositus 2005 Abbazia di Novacella, Paleo Rosso 2003 Le Macchiole, Taurasi Radici Riserva 2000 Mastroberardino; a tie at eighth place for Chardonnay Cuvèe Bois Cuvèe Frissonière 2004 Les Crètes, Granato 2004 Foradori, Gewurztraminer Nussbaumer 2005 Produttori Termeno, Cervaro della Sala 2004 Castello della Sala, Patrimo 2004 Feudi di San Gregorio; at ninth, il Langhe Nebbiolo Costa Russi 2003 Gaja, and finally in the number ten position, il Langhe Nebbiolo Sorì Tildin 2003 Gaja, together with Amarone Classico Casa del Bepi 2001 Viviani.
But the real winner in this classification is decidedly the enologist Riccardo Cotarella, one of the most famous in Italy and abroad, who had four of his wines chosen for the list (Terra di Lavoro, Montevetrano, Serpico and Patrimo, the last two products both from the Feudi di San Gregorio). The votes were “translated” into cents.
The “Tre bicchieri” of the Gambero Rosso guide, for example, have been transformed into a 95, just as the “Cinque grappoli” in the DuemilaVini guide by Ais. The points in the Espresso guide have been multiplied by 5. Both the guide “I vini di Veronelli” and that of Luca Maroni already have their scores in cents.
