AN ITALIAN AT THE HEAD OF THE COMITÉ EUROPEEN DES ENTREPRISES DU VIN: LAMBERTO VALLARINO GANCIA. A CHOICE FOR CONTINUITY AND TRUST IN REGARDS TO ITALIAN ENTREPRENEURSHIP LIKE GANCIA’S, WHICH IS FOUNDED IN A HUNDREDS YEAR OLD TRADITION

Lamberto Vallarino Gancia, president of Gancia Spa, has recently been re-elected as president of the Comité Européen des Entreprises du Vin (CEEV). It will be his second consecutive mandate for the role, which signifies a choice for continuity in a moment that is very important for the development of a strong common position in Europe on important dossiers that are set to be discussed, proposed and approved by the European Commission and its parliament.

The Comité Européen des Entreprises du Vin, which has its head office in Brussels, represents 22 European industrial and commercial wine sector companies and is involved in numerous aspects and dossier that are linked to European wine production. The Italian presidency is a recognition of the position that Italy has acquired, not only in productive and commercial sectors but, above all, institutionally. After many mandates by foreign presidents, the role was given to an Italian entrepreneur whose name is linked to an over one hundred year tradition in Italian winemaking and recognized at an international level. He is also currently vice president of the Italian Confederation of Grapes and Wine (Italian Wine Union) and the president of Sindacato B Spumante of Federvini.

Over the next three years, the CEEV will mainly be involved in the following arguments: OCM reform for which a proposal has been made for a decisive change to be made on behalf of the European Commission in regards to liberalizing plant systems, aid for distillation, sugar use, system rights, labeling, etc.; aspects connected to the foreign market, with particular attention to relations between the EU and US, Canadian, Russian, Mercosur, and Indian markets; fiscal aspects to evaluate minimum levels and to avoid possible increases in sector taxes that create market distortion and discrimination; aspects that regard health and the social aspects of wine in order to reach a shared code for
self-regulation and the culture of educating people on drinking responsibly; aspects connected to health safety and the interior market in terms of labeling, that encompasses a less bureaucratic system, guarantees freer circulation, and a more uniform approach to what must be written on labels.

Lamberto Vallarino Gancia is president of the famous Spumante company that is known worldwide for its quality and the authenticity of its products. He is a direct descendant of founder Carlo Gancia, who in 1865 invented the first Moscato Spumante, and, together with brother Massimiliano and cousin Edoardo, represents the fifth generation of family producers. Gancia is the only company of its size that has maintained its identity as a family run business and 100% Italian, earning its continued market growth with its long time knowledge as well as important endeavors in research for higher quality and in better communications for this product that is tightly connected to territory, tradition, history and the authenticity of its master cellarmen.
