WINE & SPIRITS MAGAZINE PICKS “TOP 100 WINERIES”. THIRTEEN ITALIANS MAKE IT ONTO THE CLASSIFICATION: FROM GAJA TO MAZZEI, MASI, RUFFINO, CERETTO AND VILLA MATILDE (THE ONLY WINERY FROM SOUTHERN ITALY)

Thirteen Italian wineries have made it onto the classification of the top 100 wineries made by Wine & Spirits Magazine, the most widely read specialized Anglo-Saxon magazine. The wines by Gaja, Masi, Marchesi Mazzei, Villa Matilde, Ruffino, Ceretto, Collemattoni, Massolino, Poderi Luigi Einaudi, Schiopetto, Castello di Volpaia, Livio Felluga were chosen in a blind tasting of a selection of wines chosen by the magazine.
“It is a prestigious recognition” – commented Maria Ida Avallone, who runs Villa Matilde together with her brother Salvatore – “that confirms once again the high quality of Italian wines from the best wineries but not just that. The prize is also recognition of the efforts of Villa Matilda in re-valorizing the autochthonous grapes from Campania through research and experimentation that combines innovation and tradition”.
Wine & Sprits Magazine (www.wineandspiritsmagazine.com) has still not published the winners on its web site, but for the wines from Italy, equal recognition was given to the Tuscany region (Marchesi Mazzei, Collemattoni, Castello di Volpaia, Ruffino) and Piedmont (Gaja, Massolino, Poderi Luigi Einaudi, Ceretto), followed by Friuli Venezia Giulia with Schiopetto and Livio Felluga, the Veneto, with Masi, and Campania, with Villa Matilde, which is the only winery from the southern part Italy.
