This will be a special Christmas for wine enthusiasts and collectors: an ideal place to find gifts for the holiday season will be the auction organized by Gelardini & Romani (www.grwineauction.com), set for December 15 in Rome. Those who love French wines, Super Tuscans, Brunello and champagne should not miss out on this auction that will include 378 lots that are sure to satisfy all wine lovers’ desires.
Some of the pearls of the auction? An imperial of Amarone Costasera Masi 1997, or a magnum of Barolo Riserva Monfortino Conterno 2000, a double magnum of Barbaresco Riserva Asili Giacosa 2000, the impossible to find Brunello di Montalcino Biondi Santi 1955 (with re-corking certificate included), a magnum of Guado al Tasso Antinori 1995, three bottles of Tignanello 1971 (top Italian wine in the 2007 Wine Spectator classification), its first vintage, and twelve liters of Pergole Torte 2000.
There is also a sensational selection of reserves from Italy’s French colleagues, if one is ready to make an investment. A bottle of Romanee Conti 1970 has a starting price of 1,800 euros. Or, if you prefer the aftertaste of bread that only champagne can offer then there is a lot of 3 bottles of Pol Roger, Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill 1996.
As well, to the delight of wine guide connoisseurs a bottle of Wine Spectator’s top wine for 2007 will also be auctioned off: a Clos des Papes 2005.
