DOM PERIGNON 1959, BOLLINGER RD 1990, ROMANÉE-CONTI LA TACHE 1981, AND ROMANÉE-CONTI ECHEZEAUX 1971 ARE SOME OF THE “GEMS” OF THE GELARDINI & ROMANI WINE AUCTION SET FOR MAY 22. AN AUCTION DEDICATED TO THE ENOLOGICAL DELIGHTS OF FRANCE

France’s enological masterpieces, as well as historic vintages will be up for grabs for wine enthusiasts and collectors at the upcoming Gelardini & Romani Wine Auction (www.grwineauction.com) that will be held on May 22 in Rome (Via Ferdinando Fuga 1/c - Flaminio- Piazza Mancini, at 6 PM).
The most exigent demands for French wines can most definitely be satisfied here: the auction, with its 200 lots (over 500 bottles in standard, magnum and jeroboam formats) will include the best that France has to offer.
The auction will revolve mainly around great whites, among which, some of the top Chardonnays from Montrachet (Domaine de la Romanée Conti, Domaine Leflaive, L. Jadot) and from Burgundy, Riesling dall’Alsazia (Zind-Humbrecht, Schoffit). There will also, obviously, be Champagne millésime and reds from Bordeaux (Latour Martillac, Chateau Pape Clement) and Burgundy, among which over 20 lots dedicated to the Cru Domaine de la Romanée Conti.
The most important lots on the auctioning block: Dom Perignon 1959, ‘61, ‘62, ‘64, ‘66, ‘75, ‘76, ‘78, ‘82, ‘83, ‘95, ‘96, ‘98; Cristal Roederer1985, ‘88, ‘89 (rosè), ‘94, ‘95, ‘96 (rosè), ‘99, ‘02 (rosè); Krug 1985 (collection), ‘86 (CdM), ‘88, ‘90 (CdM), ‘96 (CdM); Bollinger R.D. 1990, ‘95, ‘96; Corton Charlemagne, Coche Dury 1995, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2004; Domaine Romanée Conti Echezeaux 1971, 1986, 1999, 2003, 2005, Grands Echezeaux, 1995, 2003, 2004, 2005, Richebourg, 1992, 1998, 2005, Romanée St. Vivant, 1986, 1995, 2002, 2004, 2005, La Tache 1981, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, Romanée Conti 2005 (this last bottle , whose millésime has been judged exceptional, actually costs 6,900 euros in a wine shop - if you’re lucky).
