Piero Mastroberardino, won the “Wine Oscars” for the best red wine: Taurasi Radici Riserva 2001; the best Italian winemaker was Bruno Giacosa, with his “mythical” Barolo Le Rocche del Falletto di Serralunga Riserva 2001; and the best wines (red, white, sweet, rosè, sparkling) overall were Taurasi Radici Riserva 2001 Mastroberardino,Vallée d'Aoste Chardonnay Cuvée Bois 2005 Les Crêtes, Albana di Romagna Passito Scacco Matto 2005 Fattoria Zerbina, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Cerasuolo 2006 Valentini, Franciacorta Brut Cabochon 2003 Monte Rossa.
These were the winners of the 2008 edition of the “International Wine Awards”, a unique event created by Franco Ricci of Bibenda and the Italian Sommelier Association of Rome, which, every year, awards an “Oscars” to the men and women who contribute on a daily basis to the success of wine.

The event took place at the San Patrignano Community and was presented by Franco Ricci and Antonella Clerici. There were also many VIP’s from the world of Italian show business who attended the ceremony (Lina Wertmuller, Albano, Anna Falchi, Gianfranco Vissani, Massimo Giletti, Lamberto Sposini, Pamela Prati, and Riccardo Rossi to name just a few) who alternated with the big names of the Italian wine world to present the awards.

In other categories, the winners were for "best foreign wine", Champagne R.D. 1996 - Bollinger; "best quality-price relation", Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 - Feudo Principi di Butera - Butera - 10 euros; "best restaurant and wine list", Heinz Beck, chef at La Pergola del Rome Cavalieri - Rome; "best sommelier in restaurant", Alessandro Scorsone – Residence of the President of the Council of Ministers - Rome; "best journalist", Anna Scafuri television news program on Tg1 "Terra e Sapori" (WineNews editor and founder together with Irene Chiari, Alessandro Regoli, was also nominated for this section and declared that he was “happy to be included among the three nominations for this important award”.).

Two important personalities concluded the 10th edition of the “Wine ”: the host of the event, Andrea Muccioli, who reminded guests of the function of the San Patrignano Community as well as its motto, “Wine is pleasure and health. Drink with moderation”, and Letizia Moratti, the mayor of Rome and patron of San Patrignano, who closed the ceremonies out with a “toast to Milan and the 2015 Expo, which will discuss health and aid to populations in difficulty”.
