“AN EXTRAORDINARY PLAN FOR ITALIAN WINE”. A PROPOSAL BY ITALY’S VICE MINISTER AND DELEGATE ABROAD FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WITH PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THE U.S. MARKET

The Vice Minister and delegate for foreign trade, Adolfo Urso, revealed recently in an interview with WineNews that he is working on an extraordinary government plan for Italian wine that should be operative by the fall of 2008. It will pay particularly close attention to the U.S. market which has long been the main market for Italian wine. While attending the annual Federvini meeting (an organization that includes Italy’s most important enterprises as its members), Vice Minister Urso also stated that he will soon set off on a mission to the United States to coordinate a mini-summit with all of the leaders of the foreign trade institutes of Central and North America.

Urso pointed out that Italian wine is, “one of the most important and developed sectors economically in our country, with great forecasts on all of the markets in the world, it is the top of ‘made in Italy’”.

The plan will take into consideration an image renewal for one of the country’s most important wines, Brunello di Montalcino. Vice Minister Urso has also proposed optimizing the use of economic resources, by exploiting a continuously stronger synergy between the Ministers of Economic Development, Agriculture, the Foreign Trade Institute, and Buonitalia.
