After having distributed the top Italian and international wine labels, and conquering the role as leader of the distribution sector, the Meregalli family couldn’t help but be seduced by the fascination of wine and they have now decided to produce it. The Meregalli Group officially made the total acquisition of the Tenuta Fortuna (it was already partial owner), located in Gavorrano in the Maremma area of Tuscany.
For over ten years, the estate’s property (that includes a total 150 hectares) had been divided between renowned enologist Ezio Rivella and Aldo Fedeli.
“In a mutual agreement” – explained Marcello Meregalli – “we have decided to change the company structure for the estate, of which the Meregalli Group was part owner, by exchanging quotas and making a larger investment by acquiring 100% of the Tenuta Fertuna; at the same time, an agreement was signed, for the years to come, on the technical conditions on behalf of the Rivella family, with cavalier Ezio Rivella as supervisor and Paolo Rivella, full time manager of the company at Gavorrano”.
The Tenuta Fertuna, which was created out of nothing (there were no original vineyards but only the instinct that the place was right for a new challenge in the Maremma winemaking area) includes 50 hectares that are already in production and 10 that are starting up. It has a potential for producing 500,000 bottles, and already includes a state of the art winery and vineyard that is irrigated by an artificial lake. The wines that are currently being produced are a Plato white and red, Lodai and Messio.
