“GREAT WINE WON’T FEEL THE CRISIS”: THE WORDS OF GIORGIO PINCHIORRI, ONE OF THE GREATEST WINE COLLECTORS IN THE WORLD. CONFIRMED BY THE PANDOLFINI “DREAM” AUCTION IN FLORENCE THAT REAPED 292,000 EUROS WITH A COLLECTION OF TOP ITALIAN AND FRENCH WINES

Though the top quotes still go for the French wines, Italy received some high bids as well at the Pandolfini wine auction held recently in Florence.

There were over 180 lots, for a total value of 292,000 euros that included some of the best names in French and Italian wines. The highest bid went for a 12 bottle assortment of “Grand Cru Domaine de la Romanee Conti” 1999 sold for 22,000 euros, and a 12 bottle lot of “Domaine de la Romanee Conti” 2005, for 21,000 euros, acquired by Christian Roger, head of the company “Wine and Finance”.

As for the Italian wines, the highest earners were a 16 bottle lot of Masseto from the Tenuta dell’Ornellaia, with vintages from 2000 to 2003, sold for 3,400 euros. There was also the imperial bottle (six liters) of Siepi del Castello di Fonterutoli 2004, 1,100 euros, a selection of Sassicaia Tenuta di San Guido made up of 20 bottles with vintages from 1992 to 2003, sold for 2,100 euros, as well as a double magnum of Barolo Monfortino Giacomo Conterno 1999 for 1,100 euros, 12 bottles of Solaia Antinori 1997 for 2,100 euros, and a double magnum of Cuvee Annamaria Clemente 1990 Ca’ del Bosco, 1,200 euros.

It is worth mentioning among the French wines that were on the auctioning block, the 12 bottle assortment of “Domaine de la Romanee Conti” 2000 that was sold for 9,000 euros, another lot of grand cru from the most famous winery of Burgundy sold for 12,000 euros, a 46 bottle assortment of Chateau Mouton Rothschild, from 1961 to 2004, 9,000 euros, a six bottle assortment of Chateau Petrus (with vintages 1992, 1994, 1997) for 3,000 euros, a bottle of Chateau Cheval Blanc 1947 for 2,800 euros, and a bottle of Chateau d’Yquem 1927 for 1,900 euros.

There were also several bottles of champagne that were auctioned, among which a 17 bottle selection of Cristal, with vintages from 1990 to 2000, sold for 2,900 euros.
The auction was also a reassuring confirmation, after the recent economic crisis that the world finds itself in, that the wine world is still standing strong.

Giorgio Pinchiorri, one of the greatest wine collectors in the world: “Great wines will always be snapped up…”

“The world of great wine will not feel the decline in consumption. Apart from this auction, in the past few weeks I have participated in two important sales, one in London and the other in New York, and in both cases the top wines were snapped right up. And as for my restaurant, I have never sold so much Brunello as I have since this past March”.
These were the declarations made by Giorgio Pinchiorri, one of the greatest wine collectors in the world and owner of the world famous restaurant Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence, which also holds a wine cellar of 130,000 of the most important wines the world has to offer.
