SLOW FOOD SETS THE DATE FOR A GLOBAL “TERRA MADRE DAY”: DECEMBER 10. SLOW FOOD USA LAUNCHES “TIME FOR LUNCH”, A CAMPAIGN FOR REAL FOOD IN SCHOOL CAFFETERIAS

“Terra Madre Day”, an international day to save the biodiversity of foods, has been set for next December 10. The event is being promoted by Slow Food through Terra Madre, the international food community network created in Turin five years ago.

“Each Slow Food convivium, each community, each group of people that unites around the ideals of Terra Madre” – proclaimed the president of Slow Food, Carlo Petrini – “will be called to organize an event, even small, even symbolic, in its territory. We want December 10 to be a memorable day and, if we all know how to seize this occasion with passion and will, we will be able to organize one of the biggest collective events in celebration of the diversity of food, a revolutionary act against agri-business”.

In the meantime, Slow Food USA has launched the “Time for Lunch” campaign that is requesting “real food and not junk food in school cafeterias”, according to president Josh Viertel. 43 states have organized 160 “Eat-in’s”, mega buffets where each participant brings a dish prepared at home from top quality ingredients.
