“THE CLASSIFICATION OF ALL CLASSIFICATIONS” – TERMINUM LATE HARVEST 2007 BY TERMENO AND KURNI 2007 BY OASI DEGLI ANGELI ARE THE TWO “SUPER WINES” CHOSEN UNANIMOUSLY BY ALL OF ITALY’S MOST IMPORTANT WINE GUIDES

The Alto Adige region’s late harvest Gewürztraminer Terminum 2007 by Termeno and Kurni 2007 by Oasi degli Angeli are the two “super wines” that have received top scores from Italy’s five most important wine guides.

The result comes from a cross-examination of the top rated wines among the 2010 edition of the five wine guides Vini d’Italia Gambero Rosso (391 “Tre Bicchieri”), Vini d’Italia de L’Espresso (214 “Cinque Bottiglie”), I Vini di Veronelli (375 “Tre Stelle”), Guida Duemilavini di Ais/Bibenda (298 “Cinque Grappoli”), and l’Annuario dei migliori vini italiani di Luca Maroni (89 points).

The WineNews examination revealed a slight “improvement” in results over those of 2009, which resulted in only one wine that reached the maximum scores in all five guides (Moscato Giallo Passito “Serenade” Castel Giovanelli 2005 by the Cantina di Caldaro).

If, instead, the general results of the guides are considered then, this year, there are 13 that received unanimously high scores: Terminum 2007; Montevetrano, Montevetrano 2007; Galardi, Terra di Lavoro 2007; Ca’ del Bosco, Franciacorta Brut Cuvée Annamaria Clementi 2002, Bellavista; Franciacorta Extra Brut Riserva Vittorio Moretti 2002; Oasi degli Angeli, Kurni 2007; Conterno Giacomo, Barolo Cascina Francia 2005; Giacosa Bruno, Barolo Rocche del Falletto 2005; Cantina Sociale Santadi, Carignano del Sulcis Superiore Terre Brune 2005; Tenuta San Guido, Bolgheri Sassicaia 2006; Tenuta dell’Ornellaia, Masseto 2006; Antinori, Solaia 2006; Ferrari, Trento Brut Riserva del Fondatore Giulio Ferrari 2000.

Focus – The two “Super Wines” in Detail

Kurni is a truly unique wine. It is obtained from the varietal Montepulciano and is grown in the Marche region with high density vineyards and low yield. The niche production reaches a total of 6,000 bottles per year at a price of between 50 and 60 euros per bottle.

The late harvest Gewürztraminer Terminum from the Alto Adige is a sweet wine that represents the maximum expression of this type of wine. It is produced by one of the most important cooperative wineries of the area and cultivated in one of the most antique areas for Traminer. The production is limited to 4,000 bottles per year at a price of about 45 euros per bottle.
