It is official as of today: Graziana Grassini – woman, biologist, chemist, winemaker, 48 years old – is the “new face” at the San Guido Estate, home of Sassicaia, probably the most famous Italian wine in the world. Graziana Grassini and Sebastiano Rosa confirmed the nomination to WineNews today in Rome. Stefano Rosa represented the historic winery in Bolgheri at “Bibenda Day”, which was dedicated to Giacomo Tachis (the historic creator of Sassicaia, who is now retired and lives in the Chianti area in Tuscany, ed) and organized by Franco Ricci, head of the Sommeliers, “to acknowledge, finally, the merits of Giacomo Tachis and his fundamental contribution to the renaissance of Italian wine in the world”.
“I have been extremely fortunate in my life,” said Graziana Grassini, “to know Tachis and to enjoy his esteem and his genuine, sincere and true friendship. I thank him deeply for giving me the possibility to be near him and breathe in his great knowledge, experience and culture that distinguishes him, allowing me today to continue making one of the greatest wines in the world: Sassicaia”.
The San Guido Estate, one of the few Italian wine companies (the others are Antinori-Solaia wine, Ornellaia Estate-Ornellaia and Masseto wines and the wines of Angelo Gaja) whose wines have been for years the object of investments by the most famous wine lovers and fans in the world, will make the official announcement in the next few days.
Graziana Grassini, who started her collaboration with San Guido Estate in 2010, “received a degree in Scientific Biology from the University of Pisa and has a long history of studies highlighted – as we can see in her curriculum (www.grazianagrassini.it) - by important stages like opening two chemical and microbiological laboratories, authorized by the Ministry of Agricultural Policies that releases certificates for wines destined to foreign countries and by the Ministry of Health that guarantee food safety through self-check and countless training and refresher courses.
Graziana Grassini is the oenologist consultant, in Tuscany, also for Castello del Terriccio (for white wines) and the Fattoria di Magliano; in Sicily per the Regional Institute of Vines and Wine and in Puglia for Agricola Vallone and Longo.
