MASSIMO BOTTURA (OSTERIA FRANCESCANA) CONFIRMS THIRD PLACE BEHIND THE DANISH RENÉ REDZEPI (NOMA) AND THE SPANISH ROCA BROTHERS (EL CELLER DE CAN ROCA): HERE IS THE "THE WORLD'S 50 BEST RESTAURANTS" 2014, WITH CRIPPA And ALAJMO, BUT NOT SCABIN

The good news for Italian haute cuisine in the 12th edition of the "The World's 50 Best Restaurants", by S. Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, organized by the British magazine "Restaurant" (www.theworlds50best.com), goes to Massimo Bottura’s Osteria Francescana, confirming third place behind René Redzepi of Noma (which returned to first place after only one year in second place) and El Celler de Can of the Roca brothers Joan, Jordi and Joseph, and Enrico Crippa’s Piazza Duomo climbed two places and is now at number 39.

The not as good news instead is for Alajmo, which went down in the ranking from 27 to 46, and Davide Scabin’s Combal Zero which is just one position out of the 50 best restaurants in the world at number 51. Looking at the best 100 restaurants for Italy there is the Santini family at number 90 with their restaurant Dal Pescatore, and the only Michelin three-star Italian restaurant outside Italy, 8 ½ Otto E Mezzo Bombana with chef Umberto Bombana in Hong Kong at 67. The ranking shows a cross-section of a world in motion, where haute cuisine is no longer a priority of the Old World. And, even though Spain boasts 7 of the top restaurants, so do the United States and France at 5. Italy counts 3 restaurants, like the UK, while South America is holding its own from the DOM in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to Astrid y Gaston in Lima, Peru and there are peaks of excellence in Asia, from China to Singapore and Japan, as always. Among the cities, however, Paris tops the list with 4 restaurants together with New York ahead of London and San Sebastian, at 2.

This edition’s ranking did not record any major upsets, but only small adjustments. We must mention, the French restaurant Mirazur of chef Mauro Colagreco climbed 17 positions, moving from 28 to 11; the pair David Thompson and Prin Polsuk of Nahm Thai (from 32 to 13); Virginio Martinez of Peruvian Central (the is the best "climb”, since it started at number 50 and is now at 15); Magnus Nilsson of the Swedish Fäviken (from 34 to 19) and Dieter Koschina of the Portuguese Vila Joya (from 37 to 22). Among the newcomers four young promises: at 17 Gaggan Anand if the Thai Gaggan; at 26 Eneko Atxa of the Spanish Azurmendi also awarded the "Sustainable Restaurant Award", while closing the ranking Luke Dale -Roberts of The Test Kitchen South Africa (also " Best Restaurant in Africa”), at 48, and the American Daniel Patterson's Coi at 49.
