“Wine-Searcher”: Antinori’s Cervaro della Sala is the most sought-after Italian white wine

The pioneer of Italian white wines for aging was an idea of Piero Antinori and Renzo Cotarella. It celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2018

Italy has re-discovered its love for white wines, and many historical white wine producing territories are also focusing on the aging potential of their wines - Alto Adige, Verdicchio in the Marche, Gavi in Piedmont, Soave, in Veneto, to name a few. There is, though, a wine that is the historical spearhead and pioneer of the great white wines for aging - Cervaro della Sala del Castello della Sala, Marchesi Antinori’s Umbrian winery. It is, and not surprisingly, the most sought-after Italian white wine in the world, says the latest update of the “Most Popular Italian Wine” on Wine-Searcher.com , one of the top reference points to search for prices and quotations of wines around the world. The wine was created from an idea of Piero Antinori and Renzo Cotarella, who was the winemaker then, and today is the CEO of Antinori, after a trip he took to France in 1981. His goal was precisely to create a white wine that could endure long-term aging (Cotarella was one of the first winemakers to do malolactic fermentation and aging in barriques). In 2018 it celebrated the 30th vintage on the market, 2016, which started in1986, the first vintage. This is the latest step on the luminous path that has captured the consensus of wine critics and enthusiasts.
