Brazil, wine import grows, Italian wine well

Among the most important challenges of the wine industry, also in light of the uncertainties coming from the United States, its key reference market, there is undoubtedly the need to become increasingly more attractive and influential in emerging markets, and therefore in those countries which show strong potential both in demographic terms and in their growing interest in wine. One of the most closely followed markets is undoubtedly Brazil, which represents the main gateway to South America for Italian wine companies. In the current year, Brazil has been accelerating its wine purchases, confirming its status as a rising player, although it still generates figures well below those of the major global markets. According to Secex Brazil data, analyzed by the Spanish Wine Interprofessional Organization (Oive), wine imports into the South American country reached 79.4 million liters in the first half of 2026 (+9.1%), for a total value of 234.3 million euros (+5.9%) and an average price of 2.95 euros per liter (-2.9%). Compared to the first half of 2025, Brazilian wine imports increased by 6.6 million liters and 13.1 million euros in value, although the average price fell by 0.09 euros per liter. In terms of product categories, Brazil mainly imports bottled wine. With 76.6 million liters (+10.3%) and a value of 216.1 million euros (+6.6%), this category accounted for 96% of total import volume and 92% of total import value in the first half of 2026.
Turning to the countries exporting wine to Brazil, a comparison between the first half of 2025 and the first half of 2026 shows that Chile, according to Oive, further consolidated its leadership position in both value and volume. Chile recorded growth of +9.7% in value, reaching nearly 93 million euros in the first half of 2026, and +11.9% in volume, approaching 39.2 million liters. In position No. 2, although still far behind in export value, there is Argentina with 39.9 million euros (+1.7%), while Portugal completes the podium with 36.5 million euros (+11.8%) in export value. France, which recorded a slight decline (-0.8%) to 27.5 million euros, remained ahead of Italy (position No. 5). However, Italy posted a significant increase compared with the first half of 2025 (+7.2%, corresponding to an additional 1.3 million euros), reaching total exports of 19.7 million euros. Italian wine exports to Brazil also increased in volume, reaching 4.8 million liters (+2.2%). In terms of volume, Italy ranked in position No. 3, ahead of Spain (3.5 million liters, -8.6%) and France (3 million liters, -1.6%).
Finally, comparing 2015 with 2025, Brazil stands out as one of the markets delivering the strongest performance growth, both in value (+87.2%, equivalent to an increase of 229.4 million euros) and in volume (+101.5%, corresponding to an additional 83.2 million liters). This 10-year growth trend further confirms Brazil as a market to be monitored with close attention.
