The multi-faceted world of card and table games - of which "Magic: The Gathering" has long been the best known - is often the domain of science fiction or fantasy settings. But, if the latest entrepreneurial project by the American Jamey Stiegmeier is successful, fans will soon be competing to become the best winery in Tuscany.
The game Stiegmeier has invented is called "Viticulture: The Strategic Game of Winemaking", also called "Tuscany".
Each player begins the game with a scrawny vineyard, a cellar that has seen better days and three employees: through the use of resources made available to the player to be used all year round, each player will give battle to the sound of trade orders and agri-tourism visits, and the object is to become the top winery in Tuscany. The game has a significant degree of complexity - among other things, one of the variables is to manage employee morale - and there are names of cards that even make you smile, like the "Politician", the "Chef" and "Old World Relatives", but the idea is intriguing as well as being one more confirmation of the growing and undeniable charm of Italian winemaking in the world.
Stiegmeier’s project is currently under construction and he is raising funds via a "Kickstarter" (stonemaiergames.com). If you are interested in supporting "Viticulture: Tuscany", you can preorder a copy, but the base goal of US$20.000 was reached in a heartbeat. As a matter of fact, fifteen days after starting the fundraising, Stiegmeier has already collected something like
US$ 265.000 from over 2.700 "aspiring" even though "virtual", producers.
