54 million hectolitres of wine in the cellars of Italy in mid-April, one litre out of four in Veneto

Between the end of February and mid-April 2019, 5 million hectolitres of wine were sold from Italian wineries, with the balance of stocks rising from 59.2 million hectolitres on 28 February 2019 to 54.3 million hectolitres on 15 April 2019. The data of the latest bulletin “Cantina Italia” of the Icqrf, on the data of the telematic register, say so. From which it emerges that 27.2 million hectolitres of PDO wines, 14.1 million hectolitres of PGI wines and 12.9 million hectolitres of varietal and generic wines are planted in the cellars of the Belpaese.
Of which, in total, 13.6 (one liter out of four) is in the cellars of Veneto, while 6.6 million hectoliters are the stock of Emilia Romagna, while Puglia holds 5.4 million hectoliters, Tuscany 5.3, Piedmont 4.3 and Sicily 3.8 million hectoliters, to mention the richest regions. And just as the Veneto region is confirmed to be dominant from a regional point of view, among the Denominations, Prosecco DOC stands out, with 3.7 million hectolitres, more than double the second denomination with more wine in the cellar, or Terre Siciliane, with 1.69 million hectolitres, ahead of Delle Venezie wines, with 1.65. In the “Top 10”, also the PGI Puglia (1.55 million hectolitres), Veneto (1.54) and Tuscany (1.38), the Sicily DOC (1.37), Montepulciano d’Abruzzo (1.36), Chianti (1.31) and the PGI Salento (1.28). Before the denominations under one million hectolitres in the cellar, the DOCG of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore, with 892,037 hectolitres of wine.
