A CANADIAN EXPERIMENT: WINE AND BEER SERVED AT CINEMAS AND THEATRES

It’s no longer just pop corn at the movies now: in Canada, the go-ahead has been given for the sales of wine and beer at cinemas and theatres. Thanks to this pilot project that began in mid December, cinephiles will now be able to enjoy their favorite wine or beer along with the movie. The Varsity Cinemas (Toronto) has obtained a license to sell alcohol and is offering a ticket with the added price of 5 dollars that also includes a drink.

“The clientele has welcomed this initiative with favor”, noted Pat Marshall, spokesperson for Cineplex Entertainment. “There is no risk of drunkenness in our theatres because our personnel serve only two drinks per person, and solely before the film starts, never during the film”.

Ontario is the second province where this experiment is taking place. In Alberta, in particular, several licenses have been given to cinemas and theatres.
