In Italy, prisoners are involved in numerous wine and food projects, both inside and outside the prisons; like the experience of inmates in the open air prison in Gorgona, the smallest island of the Tuscan Archipelago, where, thanks to the efforts of Marquis Lamberto de' Frescobaldi, the ancient vineyard is once again productive. In the UK, instead, prisons become restaurants open to the public, to give prisoners a work experience that will prepare them for the outside world.
The chain of restaurants-there are already three open in the UK in Sutton, Cardiff and London (Brixton)- is called "The Clink Restaurant" (www.theclinkrestaurant.com). Customers eat with plastic cutlery and before entering must pass through metal detectors and controls. Reservations are strongly advised, as besides the experience of the environment and the thrill of being served by a serial killer, it seems the food is excellent, since it has been awarded the 2013 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, (www.tripadvisor.co.uk). Its popularity has pushed the association "The Clink Charity" to think about opening up 10 more prisons to the public by 2017.
