ITALY’S MINISTER OF TOURISM MICHELA BRAMBILLA AND THE MINISTER OF AGRICULTURAL POLICIES LUCA ZAIA BEGIN A NEW COURSE IN ENOGASTRONOMIC TOURISM IN ROME

Italian food and wine, with its wealth of DOC delicacies and wines, has always been one of the most important economic assets of Italy. One of the main reasons is food and wine tourism, which attracts 6.5 million tourists and earns a turnover of 2.5 billion euros. From north to south throughout the national territory, Italy’s wealth of history, tradition and variety of flavors, is equal to its art and architecture.
The newly appointed Minister for Tourism, Michela Brambilla, has established the “Commission for the Promotion and Support of Food and Wine Tourism”. The commission was set up due to an increasing awareness of the importance of an industry based on the strength of its products and wanting to give more value to “Italian Style” wine and food around the world.

Minister Brambilla recently inaugurated the opening in Rome, together with the Minister of Agriculture Luca Zaia. The Commission consists of representatives from various wine tourism chains: industrial associations, academics, social scientists, manufacturers, restaurateurs, hoteliers, and journalists. The honorary chairman is Gualtiero Marchesi, the famous personality and International ambassador of high quality Italian catering. The Commission is already preparing many projects to re-launch wine and food excellence in the world: the primary goal is to ensure that the quality and the history of Italian wine and food are more and more reason to call in tourism and that wine tourism can play an increasingly decisive role in the seasonal tourist flow in Italy.
