“SCHOOL & FOOD”: ITALIAN SCHOOLS JOIN FOOD EDUCATION PROJECTS

Food education is taking on an increasingly important role in Italy, especially in schools. For example, 15 schools located in the Italian cities of Rome, Milan, and Catania will be involved in the pilot program “School and Food” (Scuola e cibo), which should then become part of the school program on a national level.

Several private commercial ventures have also been key in organizing projects. For example, the supermarket chain Conad has created a new line of products called Kids aimed at teaching correct lifestyle habits, simultaneously launching a three-year learning program in 15,000 elementary schools throughout Italy.

And at a national level there are also important events being organized around food. At a recent conference the president of Expo 2015, Diana Bracco, announced that the theme will be “Feeding the Planet”.
