THE ITALIAN MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE HAS NO DOUBTS THAT “IT IS NECESSARY TO PROTECT AGRICULTURE WITH POSSIBLE IMPORT DUTIES”

The Italian Minister of agriculture Luca Zaia has no doubts that Italian agriculture needs to be “protected” from the arrival on the market of low quality products from abroad. And, for this reason, he is now pushing “protectionist” measures.

In a recent television interview, Minister Zaia emphasized how, though it may be true that the GNP for agriculture has risen, “it is also true that Italian farmers earn less”. The Minister is certain that , “to support our agriculture it is necessary to support quality products. It is a defense that must occur not only within companies but also on the market because a comparison with under-priced products is unacceptable. Thus, protectionist measures are necessary to truly defend our markets and import duties shouldn’t be excluded. Quality has a price and those who sell below cost do not have quality”.
