Elia Viviani was the winner of the wine stage in the final sprint; his fourth win at the 101st Giro d’Italia. The real star, though, of the Franciacorta Stage that the pink caravan cycled across vineyards and hills between Riva del Garda and Iseo, was the territory of the prestigious Lombard bubbles. Also Italian wine that, thanks to the partnership between the Consorzio del Franciacorta and one of the most fascinating and followed cycling races in the world, has shown the world, once again, its historical, cultural and scenic splendors, adding to the other wine stages in the recent past, like the “Sagrantino Stage”, the “Chianti Classico Stage”, the “crono del Prosecco” Treviso-Valdobbiadene, the Piedmont Barbaresco-Barolo and the stage on a dirt road among the Brunello vineyards in Montalcino. It was undoubtedly for Franciacorta, which organized many events in the territory for “its” stage, “a wonderful thing”, the president of the Consortium of Franciacorta, Vittorio Moretti told WineNews, “because cycling is nature, effort and passion, and that is, everything that we wine producers put in the vineyard every day to make excellent products, in an area that focuses on 100% organic vineyard management” (www.franciacorta.net).
