Angelo Gaja Barbaresco, Pio Cesare Barolo, Amarone of Valpolicella Classico Bertani, Chianti Classico Barone Ricasoli of Castello of Brolio, Tignanello of Marchesi Antinori, Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia, Brunello of Montalcino, Franco Biondi Santi, Ornellaia Tenuta of Ornellaia, Santa Cecilia of Planeta, Taurasi Radici Riserva of Mastroberardino: these are the ten wines that “define” Italian wine in the world, chosen by the magazine Wine Enthusiast to celebrate the 30 years of DOCG, Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin. Monica Larner, the magazine’s correspondent from Italy writes in the April issue, “Italy celebrates its well-earned reputation as manufacturer of quality bottles of wine that rival the best wines of Bordeaux, California and the world”.
And Wine Enthusiast has reserved a special mention to 5 other wines, along with the 10 icons, for having contributed more to building the identity of Italian wine to American consumers: Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, Soave Bolla, Prosecco of Mionetto, Lambrusco of Cantine Riunite and Chianti Ruffino.
