Alta Langa has been crowned King of the New Year: 53% of WineNews’ readers that responded to our online survey “Which bubbles did you toast the arrival of 2019 with?” (for a total of 329 respondents) chose the Piedmont classic method, which counts 150 years of history, but just slightly over one million bottles produced, to welcome in the New Year. Champagne came in second place, at 15% of the preferences, followed by Franciacorta, which took third place and 10% of the votes. Then, in fourth place, but at an absolutely gratifying result (6%), Italian bubbles from local vines; that is, all the sparkling wines in the territory, either the classic or Charmat method, which represent one of Italy’s foremost production innovations. One step below, at spot number five, Prosecco DOCG and Trentodoc, both at 5% of the preferences, followed by Prosecco DOC and Oltrepò Pavese at 2%, and instead Cava closed the poll ranking at just 1% of the votes.
