4 STARS AWARDED TO THE 2009 HARVEST OF NOBILE DI MONTEPULCIANO. THE PRESIDENT OF VINO NOBILE CONSORTIUM, FEDERICO CARLETTI, COMMENTED: “ANOTHER GREAT YEAR FOR OUR WINE”

The 2009 vintage of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano has been awarded 4 out of a maximum of 5 stars. Here is the opinion given today by a technical committee of winemakers and tasters to “Preview Nobile” in the land of Poliziano. ”Another great year for our wine”, said the Chairman of the Consortium, Federico Carletti.
“In Montepulciano, Vino Nobile producers have once again demonstrated that knowing how to make wine is an art. I must say that in recent years we have been able to match the excellence of the product to the culture, tradition and quality of life of our city, so that the wines can transmit them, together with all the emotions tied to the territory of origin”. Regarding exports, more than 11 million bottles, between Nobile and Red of Montepulciano, were marketed in 2009. Exports represent the highest percentage (68%) of bottles sold, while 32% are designated for the domestic market headed by Tuscany (about 40%) and Lombardy (approximately 15%).
Exports are directed, in particular, to European countries (about 70%), where Germany (28%) and Switzerland (26%) remain the major markets, but there is a growing request in the U.K. (5% in 2009) and the Nordic countries. In 2009 the U.S. market accounted for 18% of exports marking a +8% over 2008.
