GALLO NERO WITH A CLICK: AN ONLINE SHOP AT CHIANTICLASSICO.COM. HOLIDAY BASKETS AND A NEW LINE FOR THE BLACK ROOSTER BRAND NOW ARRIVE FROM THE CHIANTI REGION DIRECTLY TO ONE’S HOME

The Chianti region’s Black Rooster (Gallo Nero) brand is not only on the wine bottles that are drunk every day around the world, but also on many other items that are now available on the consortium’s web site. The online shop offers an array of products ready to be ordered and delivered directly to one’s home for the holiday season. The project, created in collaboration with Retalco, a leader in e-commerce, is not only limited to the creation of a new web channel, but also includes a total restyling of Chianti Classico merchandise. The new online shop will be periodically supplied with new items and managed internally by the Consortium.
“We have inherited and given more value over time” – explained Silvia Fiorentini, communications and marketing manager for the Chianti Classico Consortium – “to the Gallo Nero brand, which has always been a symbol of not only a wine, but also of a territory, its people and, more generally, a lifestyle. A symbol that, from the heart of Tuscany, has conquered all, as is evident by the hundreds of requests that we receive every year from all over the world for t-shirts, aprons, and other Chianti Classico gadgets. This affection from the public is what made us go online. But the new section of the portal is only the beginning of a project that will create new products for different targets in coming months”. The Consortium inaugurated their new online shop with the auspices of recent data from the Netcomm Consortium (the consortium for Italian e-commerce).
The general manager of Retalco, Giovanni Cianferoni noted: “e-commerce generated through Italian sites should surpass 6 billion euros in 2008, registering an increase of 20%. Still, in our country, there are many sectors that still have not developed this type of transaction like, for example, that of food and wine. For this reason, the operation that the Chianti Classico Consortium has begun in collaboration with Retalco becomes even more significant. The Consortium is an Italian pioneer for a form of commerce that has already been successful for some international competitors”.
