Villa Borghese, the Appia Antica Regional Park, the Aqueduct Park, the Garden of Orange Trees in Savello Park are just some of the most beautiful and famous parks in Rome. And now, the Capital city is going to dedicate a park to one of the leading Italian winemakers who more than others has influenced the wine history of his Region Abruzzi, and all of Italy. He showed the world the nobility and longevity of grape varieties commonly considered “popular”, and wine vintages: Trebbiano, first of all. On July 15th, the vice mayor of Rome, Luca Bergamo, and the president of the Italian Sommelier Foundation (FIS) Franco Maria Ricci, together with Francesco Paolo Valentini, will inaugurate “Parco Edoardo Valentini”, located between Viale Giustiniano Imperatore and Via Galba. “This is an immense honor to the great Italian wine producer who died in 2006, a man who brought the Abruzzi wines - Trebbiano, Montepulciano and Cerasuolo – to the élite of world viticulture”, explained FIS.
“Receiving the toponymic plaque dedicated to Edoardo Valentini represents a pivotal moment for Italian wine. Naming the Park after one of the greatest Italian winemakers”, stressed Ricci, “signifies that the Institutions have shown the proper attention towards a sector that is making Italy great around the world. We have carried out our request with great conviction, together with Paolo Valentini, and consequently it has found a home in Rome, thanks to the Administration’s understanding”.
It acknowledges the man who has written some of the most beautiful pages in the history of Abruzzi and Italian wines, dedicating his life and work to the family winery - whose origins are in the motherland of Loreto Aprutino, in the Province of Pescara, dating back to 1650 - to improving vines that were not well known at the time, and becoming one of the symbolic producers of “craft” wine. His name has now been immortalized, in the heart of the Eternal City, Rome.
