Giacomo Conterno’s Barolo Monfortino and Masseto are once again the top quoted Italian wines at auctions in Italy and around the world, as confirmed at the auction by Bolaffi and Slow Food held in Turin, the total amount reached 1.1 million euros, double the auction base and 95% of the lots were sold.
The top quoted Italian wines, at 8.750 euros, were 6 bottles of Barolo Monfortino Riserva Giacomo Conterno 1961, and 12 bottles of Masseto, from 1999 to 2001. One of the top lots, pointed out the auction house, was Bartolo Mascarello Winery’s 12 bottles of Barolo 1964 of at 7.500 euros.
Piedmont wines were the driving force at the auction, with 195 lots that together reached a total of 310.000 euros, three times the auction base.
The top lot of the French wines was the Duclot Collection, 9 bottles, all vintage 2004 of the largest Châteaux in Bordeaux (Château Cheval Blanc, Château d'Yquem, Château Haut-Brion, Château La Mission Haut-Brion, Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Latour, Château Margaux, Château Mouton Rothschild and Petrus), followed by 3 bottles of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche Grand Cru 1974, which sold for 5.250 euros, and one of a single bottle of Montrachet Grand Cru 2001, which sold for 4.875 euros.
Distilled spirits, instead, got the absolute top prices. A vertical of 10 bottles of 18 Year Old Macallan from 1967 to 1984, sold for 22.000 euros, six bottles of 10 Year Old Springbank 1967 for 17.500 euros) and three of Bowmore Bicentenary 98.8° Proof at 12.500 euros.
