The markets have been down for a long time, but now there seems to be some signs of recovery for Italian wine, particularly exports. It is vitally important not to lose the weak but positive moment of inertia, and to take concrete and effective action on new as well as historic markets. This is the direction the Vinitaly World Tour is taking on the American part of the tour, which will be in New York, the largest market in the States, for two days, October 25th to 28th. It will then go to Philadelphia and Washington. The main event of VeronaFiere is Eataly, the new “headquarters” of Italian wine & food in the U.S., designed by Oscar Farinetti. Over 60 Italian wineries will be at “Vinitaly Day at Eataly” on October 25th.
The event within the event is the debut of the Vinitaly project - Civiltà del bere (Civilized drinking), with “the wineries that have made Italy famous”, dedicated to the pioneers of Italian wineries and their legendary wines that have brought success to Made in Italy products throughout the world. People and wineries have been exporting Italian wine for decades, making it known worldwide on the markets of at least 40 countries. The wineries that will be in New York (others will follow in the Vinitaly World Tour in Hong Kong, November 4th to 6th, and Tokyo, December 10th to 12th) are the great Italian names: first, the Antinori family that has been synonymous with quality wine for 500 years with Tignanello and Solaia (first Italian wine to be ranked on the “Top 100” by Wine Spectator in 2000); then, Banfi, the winery of the Italo-American family Mariani, that made Brunello di Montalcino famous in the world; Masi Agricola, the famous Venetian winery of Sandro Boscaini, ambassadors of Amarone della Valpolicella; Santa Margherita of the Veneto region, with its Pinot Grigio that has conquered the States; Zonin, the most important wine-growing group in Italy that has taken root in the U.S. with Barboursville Vineyards, in Virginia and Pio Cesare, Barolo’s historic brand name, among the first to introduce the world to the great wines of the Langhe.
