World Auction: 85,000 euros for truffles of 880 grams and 6 magnums of Barolo and Barbaresco top lot

The live auction from the 3-star 8½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana in Hong Kong, with the Castle of Grinzane Cavour, has collected 360,700 euros

A 880 grams truffle, six magnums of Barolo and Barbaresco - a 3-liters of Barolo Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe 2004 from Cavallotto and a 5-litre of Barbaresco Roncaglie 2010 from Poderi Colla, plus a 3-liters of Barolo Villero 2011 from Oddero from Italy, a 1.5 liters Barbaresco Vanotu 2007 by Pelissero, a 3 liters Barbaresco Rabaja 1995 by Giuseppe Cortese and a 3 liters Barolo Monfalletto 1985 by Cordero di Montezemolo - and a dinner in the private room of the 8½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana restaurant: here is the top lot of the edition n. 19 of the World Auction for the Tartufo Bianco d’Alba and large formats of Barolo and Barbaresco, awarded last night by a Hong Kong entrepreneur, in the elegant three Michelin stars of chef Umberto Bombana in Hong Kong - the only Italian 3-star restaurant across the border - live with the Castle of Grinzane Cavour.
Three more lots were awarded at the charity dinner promoted by the staff of the prestigious restaurant, with the charity association Mother’s Choice, arete food and wine, Consorzio di Tutela Barolo, Barbaresco, Alba, Langhe and Dogliani, Enoteca Regionale Piemontese Cavour and Regione Piemonte, which raised 146,200 euros, plus 85. The final lot was broadcasted in satellite connection with Italy for a total of 231,200 euros, plus 49,500 euros from the final lot, made possible thanks to the generosity of the Consortium’s producers, and 80,000 euros from the dinner offered by the restaurant, for a total of 360,700 euros (part of the proceeds, 20,000 euros, will go to a charity from Piedmont).

- we combined Barbaresco 2000 of Casetta (3 liters) and Barbaresco San Stunet 2008 of Fratelli Grasso (3 liters), the second Barbaresco Serracapelli 2009 of Poderi Elia (3 liters) and Barolo Vigna Castello 2001 of Barale (3 liters), the third Barolo Monserra 2010 of Raineri Gianmatteo (3 liters) and Barolo Contadin 2012 of Bricco Maiolica (3 liters). For the last lot, a fantastic selection that we have the good fortune and honor to present to a very competent audience.”
The protagonists of the dinner, designed by 4-star chefs, Umberto Bombana, Antimo Maria Merone, Mitsu Konishi, and Daisuke Mori, Robert Sleigh, Sotheby’s Asia wine director, truffle expert Giorgio Richiardi and Matteo Ascheri, president of the Consortium, who told guests about Piedmont’s excellence.
“This year nature is giving us truly incredible truffles - said Bombana, Ambassador of the Tartufo Bianco d’Alba since 2006 - in four we worked on the most suitable menu to enhance this precious mushroom. We proposed different dishes, with the common goal of amusing our guests and contributing to the success of the evening.” In combination, great labels offered by the Consortium, from Alteni di Brassica 2013 by Gaja to Barbaresco Boito 2006 by Rizzi, from Barolo Rocche 2004 by Renato Ratti to Barolo Cannubi 2013 by Paolo Scavino, from Barbaresco Bernadot 2008 by Ceretto to Barolo Cascina Francia 2012 by Giacomo Conterno, to Moscato d’Asti 2018 by Saracco.
