You will do your grocery shopping with George Orwell in America: the plot of the novel “1984” with “Big Brother”, is going to be sort of played out at the supermarket. “Food Lion”, which is part of the worldwide distributor, Delhaize Group that operates in more than 1.200 stores in the U.S.A., will monitor customers walking through the aisles to understand their buying behavior.
The project will start in 2 stores using a system of 120 cameras and software for visual recognition, which will follow customers from the moment they enter the store to when they arrive at the cash register to pay for their purchases.
