Mezzacorona, Pasqua, Sordo, Masso Antico and more: the Italian gold medals at “Usa Wine Ratings”

Wine and competitions: the Italian golds of the “Usa Wine Ratings 2021”

Wine competitions never stop, not even in the middle of one of the hottest summers ever. And so, just a few days before mid-August, from the United States, the leading market for world and Italian wine, come the winners of the USA Wine Ratings 2021”, an all-American competition signed by Beverage Trade Network. 35 Italian gold medals, selected by a jury made up of many Master of Wine, sommeliers and buyers who are key players in the U.S. market, ranging from realities such as the Mezzacorona group, with three top awards thanks to Rotari’s Trentodoc Brut 2015 and Stemmari’s Nero d’Avola 2019 and Pinot Noir 2018, to the Feudo Arancio line in Sicily, from the Trentino group, to Pasqua Vigneti e Cantine, one of the most important wineries in Verona, awarded with the Famiglia Pasqua Amarone della Valpolicella 2016 and the 11 Minutes Rosé TreVenezie Igt 2020, from griffes of the Langhe such as Giovanni Sordo, with the Barolo 2017 and the Barolo Ravera 2017, to Schenk Italian Wineries, Italian division of the Schenk group, gold with the Masso Antico Primitivo Igt Salento 2019. Then there was Recchia, another Veneto company awarded three golds for Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2016 (also Italian Best in Show), for “Cà Bertoldi” Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2013, and for “Le Muraie” Ripasso Valpolicella Doc Classico Superiore 2017, as well as 3 gold medals for the wineries from Campania Vigna Maurisi, with its Taurasi 2017, Aglianico 2019 and Greco di Tufo 2020, and Tenuta del Meriggio, with its Taurasi 2012, Colle delle Ginestre Fiano di Avellino 2018 and Colle dei lauri Greco di Tufo 2018. Among the wineries with more awards, again, 2 golds for Tenute Recchi Franceschini from Marche, with Bianco di Offida Notturno 2019 and Bianco di Offida Petraiæ 2015, as well as for the Sardinian winery Arvisionadu, with Isola dei Nuraghi G’Oceano 2019 and Burghera 2018, in an Italian “palmarès” made of wines from small wineries, more structured realities and some private labels.
