A permanent laboratory of study and experimentation to support young artists and reflection on the themes and values that animate the world of wine through photographic research, thanks to which wine promotes contemporary art: is the mission of Zenato Academy, the project that celebrates the Venetian winery as a patron and that now debuts at The Others in Turin (former Military Hospital Alessandro Riberi, from October 31 to November 3), the fair with the highest content of innovation and scouting of the Week dedicated to contemporary art, in conjunction with the highly anticipated Artissima, the most important event of the sector in Italy. It does so with a photographic exhibition, “Vino. Oltre gli oggetti” (Beyond the Objects), created by the Master of Photography at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, and the Zenato Academy Award for Contemporary Scene Photography on 2 November.
“The Others was born with the ambitious project of a meeting space that creates new premises for a cultural approach. And with Zenato Academy we want to support young artists and promote a workshop that knows how to look beyond, explore beyond what we already know - stresses Nadia Zenato - from this premise the Zenato Academy Award for contemporary photography was born among the works on display at the fair that will be part of our collection”. To elect her, a jury composed of the artistic director of The Others Lorenzo Bruni, the art critic Luca Panaro and Nadia Zenato herself. The protagonists of the exhibition will be five students, coordinated by the professor Panaro, called to investigate the objects used for the production of wine, thinking of them in a new and fresh way beyond the conventional use: images that do not document, evoke, shots that try to go beyond the objects they portray, the land of Lugana and Valpolicella, the vine, wooden barrels, glass containers, tools and machines, become, through the photographic imagination and the free reading of five young creatives, something “beyond” their primary function. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog (in Italian and English, edited by Luca Panaro, photographers Giacomo Alberico, Cecilia Del Gatto, Alessandra Draghi, Cesare Lopopolo and Anna Vezzosi, Biblos Edizioni, pages 64, cover price € 30.00), volume no. 5 of a series begun by Zenato in 2010, natural expression of the full harmony and affinity between the values of the vocation for wine and the arts.
The project promoted by the winery founded by Sergio Zenato in 1960 - a production company that has become a reference point in Italy and 60 foreign countries for its ability to interpret, through the excellence of its wines, the soul of its territory of origin - is divided into a series of four “experiences” that will involve four international schools of photography in Europe, the United States and Asia: the exhibition was “Vino. Oltre gli Oggetti” of the Brera Academy, presented in April 2019, the next one, which will be presented at Vinitaly 2020, will be in collaboration with the F/16 Schule Fur Fotografie school in Berlin, the third year will involve an American school and, finally, for the fourth year, an Asian school.
