Let’s not say "bubbles" anymore, but call each wine with its proper name. This is Maurizio Zanella, President of the Franciacorta Consortium’s opinion, who proposes "a full-stop" to one of the terms used to indicate Franciacorta, rather than Champagne or sparkling wines in general. It is an appeal mainly to those who communicate wine, but also to traders, producers and enthusiasts.
"Let’s call wine with its proper name and not terms that generalize and standardize its characteristics, flattening its quality," said Zanella. " ‘Bubbles’ is an obsolete term and has no future. The present offers us a new opportunity to affirm our quality wines, starting with the consolidation of the basic culture and appropriate language”. Is he right? Posterity will be the judge.
