The combination, "Truffles from Alba, Barolo & Barbaresco" stole the show in Hong Kong: proceeds were 262.500 euros for the lots made up of the precious truffles paired with the fine wines at the auction held at the restaurant "8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana" in the Asian city, in connection with the "World Auction of Alba White Truffles" in Grinzane Cavour, where the proceeds came to 34.200 euros. These numbers express what growing economies abroad are willing to pay for a taste of real Made in Italy.
The top lot was two truffles weighing a total of 950 grams and sold for 90.000 euros. Not surprisingly, an anonymous woman writer from Hong Kong bought it. All proceeds, as always, will be donated to charity.
The proceeds from the lots sold in Piedmont, where the auction was organized with the collaboration of the Piedmont Region, Piedmont Regional Enoteca Cavour, the Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe and Roero, Piedmont Land of Perfection, and Tartuflanghe Abrate & Sons, will go to the Piedmont Foundation for Cancer Research in Candiolo and the "St. Lazarus" hospital in Alba. The more than 260.000 Euros collected in Hong Kong, however, in the event organized by the staff of Bombana (the only Italian restaurant with Michelin’s "3 stars" abroad) in collaboration with Areté Food and Wine Consulting, will go to Mother's Choice that provides support to orphans and young mothers in need.
