Olivier Bernard, president of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux, said the production of the top bottles of Bordeaux vintage 2013 might undergo a 30% price reduction, mainly because of the bad year. He told this to the Agence France-Presse, adding that "the top producers in Gironde might have to cut prices by 20-30%", and warns consumers "to be sure of their calculations before investing in wine, and shoot just for a good deal". The president stressed that 2013 “is not as much a disastrous year, as it is irregular”, so there will be price reductions "but not extended to the whole territory ".
“It's not worse or better than 2011 and 2012”, added Bernard, “not everyone has had the same success or failure. 2009 and 2010 were two exceptional years”, said the president, “and Mother Nature has come to remind us of her power in the last three years”.
