Light and airy aromas, juicy taste progression, complex perfumes and chiaroscuro in the mouth sums up the 2015 vintage of Chianti Classico excellent Reserves and Grand Selection, stars of the second day of Chianti Classico Collection at Leopolda in Florence (www.chianticlassico.it).
The Chianti Classico 2015 vintage has been considered excellent. The winter was mild with only a few cold days of below zero temperatures. Spring was also mild at medium-high temperatures, which were beneficial for normal vegetation growth. The summer was excellent, with little rainfall and high temperatures in the months of July and August, compensated by cooler night temperatures. In other words, a series of elements put 2015 in the high quality vintages, greatly exalting the varietal qualities of Sangiovese.
WineNews presented its tastings of the Chianti Classico 2016 vintage (https://goo.gl/86cXzc), and of the Chianti Classico 2015 wines, between Reserve and Gran Selezione, 12 truly left their mark. Chianti Classico Marchesi Antinori Riserva 2015 is extraordinary, clean and modern style, high-quality, accenting airy and complex aromas as well as a balanced and dynamic taste progression. Doccio di Matteo Riserva 2015 by Caparsa is more rustic, though equally intriguing, with its mineral aromas and savory, intense taste. Chianti Classico Ser Lapo Riserva 2015 of Castello di Fonterutoli is yet another perfect styled and decidedly well-made wine. Chianti Classico Riserva 2015 of Volpaia is particular, charming, fragrant and juicy in the mouth. Chianti Classico Riserva 2015 of Le Miccine is subtle and fragrant, while Chianti Classico Vigna Barbischio 2015 by Maurizio Alongi has warm aromas and spicy and intense perfume.
Campitello Riserva 2015 of Monteraponi is still young but has very interesting intentions while Chianti Classico Bugialla Riserva 2015 of Poggerino is juicy and basically ready. Chianti Classico Il Solatìo Grand 2015 selection of Castello d’Albola is elegant and has a particularly responsive taste. Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista 2015 of Castello di Ama is more austere and still young. Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2015 of I Fabbri narrates its territory very well, while Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Riserva of Fizzano 2015 of Rocca delle Macìe is soft and sweet.
