Wine exports were positive in 2005, registering an increase in value of 4.2% and an increase in quantity of 11.3%.
Federvini President, Piero Mastroberardino, declared, “it is true evidence affirming Italian wine and the definitive appreciation for the quality of our production on the part of consumers on international markets. Almost 3,000 billion euros in exports, and at a time when all international commerce is suffering, this is a record that is an honor for our production”. Among the export countries, Germany stands out with over 5 million hectoliters (+7.9%), followed by the United States, which surpassed 2 million hectoliters (+6.9%), and Great Britain with and increase of 29.1% in quantity and 17.9% in value.
An increase of 4.3% in value for exports of brandy and liquors, and the persistent positive trends for the exports of wine vinegars (+10% in quantity and 12.1% in value) conclude a series of generally comforting data on Italian exports. On the national market, 2005 was characterized by limited growth, both for value and quantity.
The increase in value was also influenced by the increase in prices that had a further acceleration, even though the path of quality is still being followed by consumers who reward the many investment efforts made by producers in recent years.
