FOR TWO DAYS THE VALLE D’AOSTA (SAINT VINCENT, MARCH 17-18) WILL HOST THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON MOUNTAIN AND STEEP TERRAIN VITICULTURE

For two days the Valle d’Aosta (Saint Vincent, March 17-18) will host the first International Congress on Mountain and Steep Terrain Viticulture. Professors, researchers, technicians, and sector operators will be meeting to discuss so called “heroic” winemaking, or rather, mountain (steep terrain) winemaking that has a long history behind it and is usually done in areas (mostly mountains and foothills) considered marginal, but important from an environmental and scenic point of view. The vineyards are prevalently made up of native grape varieties growing in harsh conditions that produce wines with extraordinary character. The event, which is of great scientific interest, has been organized by Cervim (Centre for Research, Study, Safeguarding, Coordination and Valorization of Mountain Viticulture), headquartered in Quart (Aosta), an international organization established by a law from the Autonomous Region of Valle d’Aosta and patronized by the Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin.

The two days will begin with an on-site technical tour, during which participants arriving from various countries will have direct contact with the viticulture of Valle d’Aosta and get a first hand view of the state of the art technical innovations that allow the area’s winemakers to operate in difficult conditions. Evidence of their success is the fact that the area’s vineyards successfully grow on the hills of Monte Bianco up to 1,200 meters, the highest anywhere in Europe.
