LUCIO MASTROBERARDINO, PRESIDENT OF ITALIAN WINE UNION (UIV) AND ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT WINE ENTREPRENEURS IN CAMPANIA, HAS DIED. TERREDORA IS TODAY ONE OF THE LEADING WINE FIRMS IN SOUTHERN ITALY, WITH 200 ACRES OF VINEYARDS

Lucio Mastroberardino, president of the Italian Wine Union (UIV) and one of the most important wine entrepreneurs in Campania and Southern Italy, has died. He was born in 1967 in Avellino. He started participating in the family activities in his early youth and in 1990 began working in various sectors of the family business. Lucio Mastroberardino always stated and confirmed, “that being open to change is essential for growth, improvement, continuity and cohesion of the enterprise”. In 1994, when the entrepreneurial paths of the historic Mastroberardino firm went their separate ways, he contributed to the development of the family vineyard Terredora, together with his father Walter and his brothers Daniele and Paolo, completing the vine production cycle with the production and promotion of international wines.

Lucio Mastroberardino was always committed to bringing the highest quality to the Terredora production, focusing on the potential and enhancement of native grapes in Campania, and then taking on the responsibility for the promotion and confirmation on international markets. Terredora is one of the major vineyards in the Campania region in Southern Italy, counting nearly 200 hectares of vineyards and it is the most important producer of grapes. Integrating the vine cycle with wine production represents the company’s turning point: the company was founded in the early seventies as a branch of the Mastroberardino family wine business activities with the mission to improve the quality and enhancement of the ancient vines of Campania (Fiano, Greek, Falanghina and Aglianico) through technological innovation. More than a third of the 1.3 million bottles produced is distributed abroad.
Terredora has received important and prestigious awards in recent years: in 2004 “Wine Spectator” indicated the company as "one of the 50 largest producers in the world that every wine lover should know", including it many times in its "Top 100"; in 2006, the International Wine Challenge in London (UK) named it the “best producer of white wines in the world”.

Since 2010, Lucio Mastroberardino, who took over from Andrea Sartori, was at the helm of the Italian Wine Union (UIV), representing 500 member companies that register 50% of the turnover of the Made in Italy wine sector and over 90% of its exports and fought to obtain from the Italian institutions, “a real policy that contributes effectively to enhancing the role and the strategic value of agricultural and food policies, and therefore wine, in the national economy”. Lucio Mastroberardino also offered his important contribution as wine entrepreneur to the Italian confederation of farmers, Confagricoltura and its delegation in Campania.
