THE GOURMET SUPERMARKET ARRIVES IN ITALY: OPENING FIRST IN TURIN, THEN IN MILAN AND GENOA

Top of the line Italian food products will soon be available to the public at a new gourmet supermarket chain dedicated to selling only the highest quality goods. The idea is that of Oscar Farinetti, ex leader of Unieuro, an electronics chain store that was recently sold to English group Dixon’s.
Farinetti, who also happens to be an old schoolmate of Carlin Petrini, the founder of Slow Food, plans on investing the earnings from the sales of Unieuro in this new project.
After having founded Eataly, a company specialized in researching traditional food products and producers, the next step will be the opening of the first supermarket in Turin’s Lingotto neighborhood by spring 2006. It is set to be 6,000 square meters full of goods, with estimated earnings of 5 million euros per year. Two more supermarkets will subsequently be opened in Milan and Genoa.
